Why WoofSorted exists
"Dog friendly" can mean anything from a water bowl by the door to a pub where your dog curls up by the fire. Too often you only find out which when you arrive. WoofSorted was started to take the guesswork out of days out with a dog, by listing places where dogs are allowed inside and saying clearly where and how.
WoofSorted is independent and run by one person, Marcus Chaplin, a dog owner based in Somerset. Listings are free, and businesses can't pay to be included or to appear higher in results.
What we list
- Cafés, pubs, shops and attractions where dogs are allowed inside, not just in the garden or at outside tables.
- Hotels, B&Bs and inns only where your dog can stay in the room with you.
- Restaurants only where dogs are allowed in the restaurant itself, not just the bar.
- Parks, beaches and outdoor attractions where dogs are welcome, with any lead rules or seasonal restrictions noted.
Each listing says where dogs are allowed (for example "in the bar and snug, not the dining room"), whether water or treats are offered, and any other rules. If a place charges for dogs we say an additional charge applies, but we don't quote prices, because they change.
How we check places
Every place is checked before it goes live. We look for the venue's own dog policy on its website, check it against established dog-friendly guides, and confirm the details on Google Maps. Some places we've visited ourselves with a dog, and their listings say so. We note where each dog policy came from and when we checked it.
If the wording is vague, the information comes only from old reviews, or a place has recently changed hands, we leave it out until we can confirm it. We also leave out places with a pattern of poor service, even if they allow dogs.
Keeping it up to date
Places change, so listings are reviewed and corrected regularly. If something's wrong, please use the Report an issue button on the listing, for example if a place has closed or no longer allows dogs inside. Business owners can claim their listing to keep details such as opening hours up to date, and anyone can suggest a new place.
