About

A charming 16th-century coaching inn and the oldest pub in Mere, nestled beneath the South Wiltshire Downs - according to local records, King Charles II stayed here in 1651 while fleeing after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester, at which point the pub was renamed from The Talbot to The George; recently under new management for 2026.
